Outline of the Loved by Locals System

Any ASSC Member can submit a Loved by Locals local visitor tip via the Members’ Area.

Your entry needs to be checked, approved and ‘set live’ by us before it will appear on the EmbraceScotland site.  We will try to do this within 48 hours.

Loved by Locals entries appear in a slider box on the Town page of the related property. They will also appear on the ‘More from this Owner’ tab of the linked Property page.

When a visitor clicks to view any Loved by Locals tip, they are taken to a page of all entries for that Town.  This can be downloaded or printed out by the visitor to use during their holiday, or by you to place in your property or properties.

The key to the purpose and success of Loved by Locals is that we need to build lots of unique new content that can be linked to and shared through social media.  It will be regularly featured in all our social media promotional activity.

Submitting Loved by Locals Tips

• Go to Your Account… Submit a Local Tip in the menus above.
• Enter a short Title (two or three words is best)
• Choose the property you want it to relate to from the drop-down list provided.
  You can have as many tips as you want associated with each Property Page you have.  
• Choose the nearest Town from the drop-down list.  This will probably be the same Town as you have chosen for  the Property.  You can use a closer town or village in the ‘distance from’ field below.
• Find an image you can associate with your entry and upload it using the Browse button to locate it on your computer.  All entries must have an image, to make the whole attractive to visitors.  Ideally you would have an image which relates to the Tip you are entering, but you can use a nice generic local view or other attractive picture.
• Enter the distance from a nearby local town or village.  We use Towns that we feel most people will recognise, so they know where they are starting from. Use the name of a small, unknown village and visitors may not have a clue where you are when browsing the web!
  Enter a full expression for the distance: ie not just ‘5’ or ‘5 miles’ but ‘5 miles from Oban’. This is the distance to the location of the Tip you  are writing about, of course, and may be different to the distance to your property.
• Locate your Tip on the map.  Zoom and move the map to find the location and then right-click to drop a pin. This does not have to be 100% accurate, it is to give the visitor an idea of where the Tip can be found, not a detailed navigation aid.
• Enter a brief description of your local tip, outlining what it is and why it is interesting to visit or do.  We are restricting this to 300 characters so that visitors have a concise set of pointers to a variety of things to do in the area they are visiting.  You can always write more and put it on your website for them to read!
• Enter a brief set of directions that will enable visitors to get to the location easily.
• If you have any notes or a message you want to give to the ASSC staff member approving the Tip, enter it in the box provided.  This will NOT appear on the EmbraceScotland website.

Now Use What You’ve Created!

You too can promote Loved by Locals tips, and use the unique page of local tips in any way you want to promote your property and your area.

• Link to the Loved by Locals page from your own website
• Share news about the new local tips on your Facebook page, through Twitter, or on your blog
• Tell others in your area about Loved by Locals, and see if they want you to add anything else to the list

Terms & Conditions for Members Submitting Loved by Locals Tips

The following terms and conditions apply to all Loved by Locals tips and the process of submitting, reviewing and managing them.

• The Member submitting to Loved by Locals tip undertakes to ensure that all content has been originated by them, or is free of any copyright restrictions or conditions, or is used by them with explicit permission of the copyright holder, such permission being readily available for inspection by ASSC on request.  This applies to all descriptions, other text, and all images uploaded.
• The Member undertakes to ensure that all details submitted are correct and have been checked personally for accuracy.
• ASSC reserves the right to withhold or withdraw any entry submitted at its sole discretion at any time.  Although we will always try to explain any such decision  to the Member concerned, we must ultimately have full editorial control of the content, and cannot guarantee to display any specific content offered.  Receiving an Loved by Locals tip onto our system via the Submission Form or by any other method does not constitute any obligation to use the material in any way on EmbraceScotland website.
• In order to ensure clarity and usability, ASSC may use their editorial discretion to edit or amend the content of and  entry submitted.
